Some precision cut maple blocks ready to have the importer’s logo printed on.

SHEET 01 A5 TEA CRATES KIT PRE 1923

This kit comprises an A5 SHEET of printed text to reproduce 4 designs of tea crates (12 of each), plus 48 PRE- LACQUERED BLOCKS of precision-cut solid maple, so sufficient blocks to use the whole sheet. The light covering of laquer assissts in the transfer of the image onto the wood surface.

Tea was at one time a major import commodity and was often transported by rail in crates with the importer's name and logo stamped on the front, or painted using a stencil. The text designs are inspired by, and loosely based on, prototype products with some modeller's licence. The labels are printed on high quality paper; each label measuring 14mm x 14mm. The text is transferred onto a suitable block of wood of the same size by wetting with nail varnish remover (see below). The results in these photos speak for themselves.

The kits are available either by messaging me through the Contact Page or through my Ebay listing number 283176072721 . A kit costs £19.50 plus £3.50 post and packing. The text sheet is supplied flat in a ‘Do Not Bend’ envelope.

Full instructions are included, in addition my article in Model Railway Journal No 264 has more information.
